Writing Process - Looking Forward!

Updated: Sep 15, 2023

Do you write your trilogies all at once? My intention was to do them separately but it wasn't long before all three were lined up on my laptop and editing goes 1-2-3 1-2-3, lather, rinse, repeat. The flow is good. I really look forward to sharing these with you! And they're out on the virtual shelves now.

As usual, characters drive the plot, action and ambiance. They can be very bossy. In this case they tricked me into an ending I didn't see coming.

Now this wonderful project is in its happy place and I'm looking forward to a rest before jumping into the next project. Hard to sit still though so casually editing ye olde blogge or der Blog in German. Do you always have a work on the go? Ideas blast off like fireworks on a hot summer night, right?

Writers, artists, musicians, creators delight in the ability to pluck ideas from the air. We soar on the wings of a thought, and occasional angst reflux hinders us not. Positive thinking gets happy results. No need to feed the myth of the tortured artist. Life is for living.

Get some insight into the Reiker For Hire series!

The Reiker for Hire detective series take place in Victorian era Germany at the end of the 19th century. We first meet Reiker in the Lora Ley Fantasy Fiction series, as the only human who knows about the Nyx. Now he's solving crime in the mortal world, in the mid-sized town of Mittelstadt.

A fictional place, Mittelstadt would be found about 50k south of the Frankfurt city limits in southwestern Germany. It's a progressive white collar and farm town, with a thriving seedy side too, and more than its share of odd characters.

In the German Empire of the late 19th century, one of the most popular vacation events was a cruise on the River Rhine. Death Cruise, the first Reiker novella, centers around murderous action on a Rhine river cruise, as tourists get lost, drop dead or dance the night away in Strasbourg, Speyer, Heidelberg and Worms; and a young woman gets a second chance at life.

Health spas, hydrotherapy and natural healing boomed in the late 1800s. In Hotel of Horror, inspired by a true story, Reiker acquires an unwanted partner, a female detective from Canada. Science clashes with the nature of the beast as Reiker and April investigate bloody murder at a derelict resort spa in the Black Forest.

A wave of spiritualism, interest in the occult and afterlife communication swept Europe in the latter half of the 19th century. The third novella, Murder in the Cards, takes us into the realm of magic, fortune telling and the allure of easy money. When a fortune teller's predictions of murder come true, she hires Reiker to investigate. Once more he teams up with April to unravel the threads of reality and find the hidden truth.

I love the research and rhythm of putting this series together. As a self-published author I can work at my own pace and have fun. The Reiker For Hire series has been released and readers can get the novellas available separately or in an anthology.

I heart libraries. My books, stories and novellas are always free for libraries from my author profile on the Smashwords site. There you can also read free samples and peruse more info. If you want to binge the whole Reiker or Lora Ley series just ask your local library to participate, and enjoy.

Take a look 'round Smashwords, a super site for readers and writers of all genres including action, adventure, romance, fantasy fiction, crime, true confessions, hot love, westerns, horror, non-fiction, children's books, sci fi and the list goes on. I've been with this site several years now and they have the best support team on the planet.

Thanks for reading!
