Overwhelmed with grief, Erigone hangs herself. Dionysus immortalizes the trio by placing them in the sky. Erigone is considered to be the archetype for Virgo the Maiden. Maera the loyal hound becomes the star Canicula, known by the Romans as Sirius.
The Dog is one of the symbols of Hermeticism, representing the Dog Str Sirius.
